Dc Prep Charter School Board Meeting
The meeting commenced with the confirmation of a quorum. Key discussions involved the review and approval of previous meeting minutes, including a recommended amendment regarding an absent attendee. The main agenda item was a comprehensive curriculum update detailing the decision to adopt Amplify for the ELA curriculum. The rationale focused on alignment with the science of reading, improved resources for writing and vocabulary, and knowledge-building philosophy supported by external research, such as the baseball text study. The curriculum implementation plan involves extensive professional development, piloting in May and June, infrastructure updates (including assessment calendars and grade book policies), and family engagement via a town hall. Regarding mathematics curriculum, two options are under review, with a decision anticipated by data day three (Spring), and implementation scheduled for the following school year. The scale of this ELA implementation is comparable to the Common Core adoption previously undertaken.
