Alabama State Department of Education Implementation Guide 2019-2022
This document serves as Phase I of the implementation guide for the Alabama Literacy Act, aiming to significantly improve reading outcomes for students across Alabama. The strategic objective is to ensure every student reads at or above grade-level by the end of third grade. Key pillars include defining responsibilities for state and local education agencies, outlining a model for literacy support, establishing a multi-tiered system of supports and response to instruction, and providing comprehensive guidance on literacy assessment, instruction, and intervention. It also addresses end-of-third-grade promotion requirements, summer learning programs, and specific provisions for dyslexia, fostering a collaborative approach for student reading success.
