Key topics included discrepancies in contract calculations and pay structures, the use of vague policy references, mismatches between job titles and descriptions, and concerns over the legal implications of the entire agreement clause. Additionally, faculty discussed the lack of effective grievance procedures, the university's failure to adhere to contract renewal notification deadlines, and unprofessional formatting in contracts. The council also deliberated on issues of administrative mismanagement, a lack of transparency, faculty input in institutional decisions including accreditation, and the potential for collective action in response to these grievances.
The meeting focused on the institution's ongoing financial crisis, including budgetary cuts, potential reductions in federal funding, and fiscal sustainability efforts. Discussions covered changes to faculty contracts and employment terms, specifically concerns regarding reduced contract lengths, salary adjustments, and the need for updated job descriptions. Institutional compliance issues related to Higher Learning Commission mandates and the challenges of operating under interim leadership were also discussed.
The council approved Class III programs for the Lakota Language and Lakota Horsemanship and Equine Studies degrees.
