The Lutheran Council in the United States of America Report 1967
This preliminary report details the historical context, current discussions, and proposed framework for establishing the Lutheran Council in the United States of America. It addresses three key areas: the history of the movement, the nature and implications of the proposed association, and its financial cost. The plan outlines a new inter-Lutheran cooperative association aimed at fostering theological consensus through a dedicated division, facilitating cooperation in shared interests without compromising doctrine, and providing a structured organization for combined efforts in areas like educational, military, mission, welfare services, and public relations. The council, intended to commence operations on January 1, 1967, seeks to advance the witness and work of participating Lutheran bodies toward a doctrinally united Lutheran Church in America.
