The board conducted a workshop focused on enhancing board effectiveness and governance. Participants reviewed attributes of high-performing boards and discussed the results of the previous board self-evaluation. Significant updates were made to both the Board Self-Evaluation and the Presidential Evaluation instruments, incorporating new templates and metrics to improve the evaluation process. The board also identified key priorities for the upcoming year, including revising board policies, supporting the transition of leadership through the onboarding of an interim and permanent president, and beginning preparations for a new strategic plan.

The Board discussed a student spotlight presentation and honored the outgoing Board Attorney for his years of service. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to debating the feasibility of providing a virtual link for public attendance at Board meetings, ultimately deciding to begin with archiving audio recordings while researching further options. Other agenda items included a review of longitudinal data, updates on the Personal Assessment of Campus Environment (PACE) climate survey, and personnel actions. The Board reviewed proposed rule changes regarding the duties and powers of the Board and the selection process for the College President. Additionally, updates were provided on the SACSCOC 5th Year Report process and Collegiate High School accountability targets.

The board meeting agenda includes personnel action reports for Polk State College and the Collegiate High Schools, as well as updates on employment vacancies, tangible property deletions, and capital project status. Action items involve the approval of salary schedule changes for the College and its Collegiate High Schools. The Board will consider the recommendation to appoint a new President for Polk State College and review financial statements. Additionally, the agenda covers an informational update on a study away experience and a recruitment and enrollment plan for the Collegiate High School.

The meeting agenda includes discussions on virtual attendance, tangible personal property deletions, investment interest, personnel actions, employment vacancies, and capital project status. Action items involve salary schedule changes and financial statements. The board will review and approve rules regarding board duties, powers, and the selection of the college president. Additional topics include the selection of a search firm, contract for legal counsel, legislative updates, mission and vision statements, accreditation updates, event planning, and enrollment metrics. The meeting will also feature a collegiate high school accountability plan presentation.

The board meeting included student and special recognitions, followed by approval of consent agenda items such as payroll distribution, expenditure summary, tangible personal property deletions, and personnel action reports for April 2016. The meeting also covered the president's report, attorney's report, business services action and informational items (including investment interest comparison, budget amendment summary, financial statements, and project status reports), academic and student services action and informational items, a collegiate high school report, and first and second reading items. Discussion included the approval of revised Board Rule 1.05, Goals of the Board, and a report on the Polk State Chain of Lakes Collegiate High School's OpenROV project.
