This Workforce Study provides a detailed analysis of the social work workforce in Texas, identifying critical shortages, particularly in rural areas, against a backdrop of increasing behavioral health needs. The study highlights key barriers to workforce growth such as low salaries, high student debt, and limited access to supervision. It proposes several strategic recommendations to address these challenges, focusing on enhancing educational opportunities, increasing financial support for students and professionals, improving access to supervision, fostering collaboration among stakeholders, and promoting licensure portability to recruit, train, and retain a qualified social work workforce capable of meeting the state's growing behavioral health demands by 2036.
