The committee meeting addressed various municipal operations, including the employment of new utility and tax collectors, and the appointment of counsel for litigation. Key approvals included payments for road programs, acceptance of resignations, and the authorization of various police officer appointments. The committee also discussed becoming a 'Film Ready' municipality, a draft letter regarding the Wharton Forest fire safety plan, and received updates from the township engineer regarding capital items, drainage remediation, and roadwork intersections.
The committee accepted the resignation of a committeeperson and declared the seat vacant, subsequently appointing a successor to fill the unexpired term. Additionally, the committee passed a resolution to appoint a Zoning Official. The session also included public and committee member comments regarding insurance claims related to battery-induced fires and information regarding online farmland assessments.
The board addressed two main applications. For the first application, they granted a bulk variance for a property owner to construct an in-law suite addition, which included relief for front and side yard setbacks. For the second application, regarding a conditional use and site plan for a cannabis cultivation facility, the board engaged in extensive discussion concerning site access, odor mitigation, agricultural usage designations, and environmental impacts. Following a public hearing and deliberations on compliance with municipal and state requirements, the board ultimately denied the conditional use application for failure to satisfy procedural requirements but granted a D-3 variance, a minor site plan design waiver, and legal determinations regarding the agricultural nature of the site's access road.
