The council issued a proclamation for National Public Works Week. Actions included authorizing the advertisement of an ordinance regarding intergovernmental cooperation for the Turtle Creek Council of Governments, approving a development plan for the Big Gym Plaza, LLC, renaming Holiday Lane to Marriott Drive, and adopting the Allegheny County hazard mitigation plan. Furthermore, the council approved a consent for access agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, authorized a grant application for the Route 22 revitalization project, supported the America 250PA commission, and entered into a fire service agreement for 2026-2030. Reports were provided regarding All-American Weekend planning and the recognition of a staff member for heroic actions during a cardiac emergency.

The board will consider two requests for dimensional variances. The first involves an addition to an existing residential property that would encroach into the required side yard setback. The second request involves an addition to a commercial building that would encroach into the required front yard setback.

The board conducted a reorganization, nominating and electing a secretary, vice chairman, and chairman. The primary business item involved a request from Maserelli Holdings LLC for a dimensional variance to erect a two-sided billboard along Golden Mile Highway. The applicant provided technical data regarding topography, floodway and floodplain constraints on the subject property, which limit developable space, and outlined plans for an access easement through the adjacent park and ride facility.

The Council meeting included a proclamation honoring National Police Week and Peace Officer Memorial Day. The assistant municipal manager provided updates on the upcoming all-American weekend celebration, marking milestones for the community, including the 75th anniversary of Monroeville and the 100th anniversary of Route 22. Discussions were held regarding volunteer fire department recruitment and retention. Additionally, the Council addressed a conditional use application for Big Jim Plaza LLC, focusing on the renaming of Holiday Lane to Marriott Drive and a request to close an access point on Dockerty Drive for safety and site management reasons.

The Council Work Session focused on several agenda items to be addressed at the following business meeting. Discussion points included the adoption of a resolution for the Allegheny County 2026 Hazard Mitigation Plan, requests for multimodal transportation grants for corridor revitalization, and authorizations for intergovernmental cooperation and service agreements with volunteer fire companies. The session also covered capital improvement purchase orders, changes to the newspaper of record, and development applications regarding conditional use approvals for local businesses.
