The Board of Commissioners conducted a meeting covering a wide range of financial and administrative topics. Key discussion points included a public hearing and subsequent approval of final budgets for the County and several local districts for the 2026/2027 fiscal year. The Board discussed and approved various personnel adjustments, allocations for capital infrastructure, and service-specific budget items. Additionally, the commissioners approved a proclamation for Emergency Medical Services Week, authorized grant applications for traffic safety and criminal alien assistance programs, and supported the MEGA Tungsten Project via a letter of support. The Board also nominated a representative to the Secure Rural Schools Resource Advisory Committee and authorized property appraisals for potential future administrative complex expansion.

The board discussed multiple planning and zoning applications, including roadway dedications and private access easements. Public hearings were held for ordinances related to the Weed Control and Pest Abatement District and election worker compensation. The board approved resolutions regarding the closure of the Weed Control and Pest Abatement District fund. Updates were provided on the Boys and Girls Clubs of Elko event center, the Response Unit for Supportive Health program, and library board activities. Proclamations for Wildfire Awareness Campaign Month were approved. Additionally, the board reviewed fire district grants, sheriff office infrastructure purchases, and collaborations with the University of Nevada, Reno on roadway safety grants, as well as multiple judicial district court grant applications.

The Board conducted appeal hearings for two separate conditional use permit applications. The first involved a request by Sun Silver Resources, LLC for an 11-unit mobile home park in a Highway Services & Tourist Commercial district, where the Board denied the appeal and upheld the permit with modifications, including dust abatement requirements. The second hearing concerned an application by Modern Land and Development, LLC for a recreational lodge and chair lifts in an Open Space district, where the Board also denied the appeals, upholding the permit with conditions related to noise decibel limits, non-reflective surfaces for structures, downward-directed lighting, and a biennial compliance review process.

The Board discussed and approved the update to the Five-Year Master Plan, including language regarding a backup dispatch center and associated communications requirements. They authorized funding for the Computer-Aided Dispatch server project and approved the purchase of a support vehicle to assist the Elko TV District Cooperative Service. Additionally, the Board authorized the transition to the Total Response software platform for the West Wendover dispatch system. The meeting also included reports on local GIS improvements, dispatch center call volumes and operations, and the current status of surcharge fee collections.

The board conducted a public hearing and approved the final budget for the Elko County Fire Protection District for the 2026/2027 fiscal year. Additionally, the board approved the establishment of two new special revenue funds: the Fire Operations Reimbursement Fund and the Fire Equipment and Capital Reimbursement Fund. These funds were created to properly track reimbursements from incident responses, grants, and contracts, ensuring they are separated from the general fund and can be reinvested into operational and capital needs. A presentation was also given regarding a new initiative to install fire detection cameras on towers.
