Rockingham County Schools Academically Or Intellectually Gifted Plan 2022-2025

Strategic

The Rockingham County Schools Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) program, for 2022-2025, aims to empower each child to become a lifelong learner equipped for a changing society. The program focuses on providing a safe, dynamic, nurturing, and innovative learning environment where each child can reach their full potential. It strives to identify and meet the unique educational needs of gifted students from all ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic groups, enhancing their potential through differentiated services matched to individual needs. The program emphasizes critical thinking, creative thinking, and problem-solving, while also addressing the social and emotional needs of students. Student identification procedures are clear, equitable, and comprehensive, leading to appropriate educational services. Multiple pathways and entry points are used for identification, including standardized assessments (CogAT, EOGs), portfolios, and performance tasks. The program uses a multi-criteria approach to identify students as academically gifted in reading (AR), mathematics (AM), or both (AG); academically and intellectually gifted (AI) in reading (AI-R), mathematics (AI-M), or both (AI-RM); and individually identified academically and intellectually gifted (AI) students demonstrating reasoning skills in the top 2% on aptitude and achievement tests. Acceleration services, documented through an Individualized Differentiated Education Plan (IDEP), are provided for qualifying students.
