Board meetings and strategic plans from Courtney Krahn's organization
The meetings covered discussions and planning for town hall meetings in various locations, including a review of the Mary Hogan Town Hall and planning for the Salisbury Town Hall. There was also discussion about the winter newsletter, including its timing and content related to committee updates and key topics such as the Ripton Elementary decision, the Bridport/Shoreham configuration decision, and the budget. The purpose of the town hall meetings was discussed, and feedback and discussion related to the C30 policy were addressed.
The committee discussed several topics including revisiting questions related to reducing the gap between historically marginalized students and non-historically marginalized students in the ACSD strategic plan, reviewing fall screener data, and developing a committee work plan for the year. The committee also discussed the plan in relation to current and planned ACSD student assessments, potential areas of focus, and details for the ACSD District Office presentation. Additional topics included the interpretation of the 50% gap reduction question, chronic absenteeism, and the impact of data on teachers and staff members.
The committee discussed updates on the Mary Hogan HVAC project, equity-based budgeting, stormwater projects, in-house summer projects, and the Five Year Capital Improvement Plan. They also covered the bid process for the MUHS Learning Lab, incorporating equity into the Facilities Master Planning process, and facilities committee goals through June 2024. Various projects across different schools, including roof repairs, pump replacements, lighting upgrades, and window replacements, were addressed.
The committee discussed measuring student outcomes, reviewed the committee's charge, and considered presentations needed. They also discussed setting a monthly meeting schedule and reviewed the Strategic Plan, including the use of VTCAP to measure student outcomes. The committee explored social-emotional measures and assessment tools, including PANORAMA. The importance of a shared understanding of high-quality learning in ACSD schools was emphasized, along with the need to ensure students are learning interesting and relevant content.
The meeting of the Ad Hoc Committee included discussion on how the committee can serve to fulfill its charge. Presentations on the collection of data and the District's proficiencies were discussed as a starting point to identify what parts of the student achievement work the committee would like to hear more about and make public through their meetings. There was also discussion around streamlining when the Board gets data from the District administration and the use of VTCAP to measure student outcomes. The committee will attempt to set a calendar for assessment, create a survey of the tools, and understand what the District thinks about them.
