The committee discussed draft policy 4215 concerning the prohibition of political electioneering and campaigning on district property. Key discussion topics included defining specific prohibited activities such as petitioning, soliciting contributions, and distributing campaign literature. The board addressed concerns regarding the scope of the policy, debating whether it should apply as a blanket prohibition or be limited to specific times, such as when schools are used as polling locations or during active school hours, to balance First Amendment rights with the need for a secure educational environment. The committee also considered the implications of upcoming state statutes regarding election days and the potential impact on community use of school facilities.
