The committee discussed the ongoing search for a City Arborist and the vacancy for the Ward 3 Tree representative. A report on trees removed during the month was presented, noting that no healthy protected trees were affected. The committee voted on a recommendation for the Hawk Creek Phase 2 Tree Permit to be forwarded to the Planning Commission. Additionally, committee member participation in DRC meetings was reviewed, a community newsletter article on Spanish Moss was highlighted, and the committee approved a tree permit for cabling and trimming a live oak tree under the Majestic Tree Program. Members also inquired about new tree plantings associated with the Ohr Okeefe Museum.

The committee reviewed the status of the search for a City Arborist and examined a list of removed trees. They discussed and approved the resubmit for the Hawk Creek 2 development, including plans for protected tree removal and mitigation. Additionally, the committee considered several applications for the City of Biloxi Majestic Tree program, approving the Old Brick House Live Oak and the Querens Magnolia, while deferring a decision on the Lafayette Street tree pending a health assessment. The committee also provided updates on Arbor Day giveaway preparations and a Tidelands Heritage Trust tree giveaway event.

The meeting was held to address commission business; however, no formal action was taken as a quorum was not achieved.

The City Council meeting covered several operational updates and challenges. The agenda included updates on hurricane season readiness, upcoming events like the Sanger Theater reopening and Juneteenth celebrations, and the status of a commercial towing ordinance, which is currently delayed pending an LDO amendment. The Police Department provided reports on staffing shortages, the implementation of a new reporting program to track homeless activity and camps, animal control unit operations, and critical infrastructure concerns, specifically persistent leaks in the public safety building roof and maintenance issues with backup generators at the communications center and police department. Council members emphasized the need for zero-tolerance enforcement regarding loitering on public sidewalks and questioned the long-term management of facility maintenance.

The council meeting included a presentation regarding the infrastructure development and master planning of a mixed-use community, as well as an operational update from the local Fire Department. Discussions focused on the current status of residential subdivisions, projected economic revenue from developments, infrastructure improvement needs, and the fire department's staffing, training initiatives, equipment maintenance, and future facility plans.
