Swarthmore Energy Plan 2035
This document outlines Swarthmore's 'Zero By Thirty-Five' energy plan, a strategic initiative aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2035. The plan's primary focus is on decarbonizing the campus heating and cooling systems through the replacement of the existing steam system with a central geo-exchange system, powered by renewable electricity. This strategy is designed to address the majority of Scope 1 and 2 emissions, with additional efforts directed towards reducing Scope 3 emissions through various strategies and carbon offsets. The plan also serves as an educational platform, intending to inspire future engineers, model sustainable solutions for other institutions, and position Swarthmore as a leader in environmental responsibility and energy efficiency for the next century.
