The board conducted a public hearing regarding a variance request for a new drive-in restaurant project. The applicant requested to exceed the maximum permitted parking spaces to accommodate staff needs. Following a review of the site plan and a discussion comparing the project to similar locations, the board approved the variance request.

The commission reviewed several zoning and development requests. Key actions included approving a comprehensive plan amendment and zoning change for a church site, a zoning change and specific use permit for a convenience store with gas pumps, an amendment to a planned development for hospital signage, and specific use permits for a self-service storage facility and an animal grooming shop.

The City Council meeting included a variety of legislative and administrative actions. Key topics discussed and approved included amendments to zoning ordinances related to data centers and power generation facilities, as well as a comprehensive plan amendment and zoning change for a property on US Hwy 377. Additional agenda items covered approvals for a facility improvement agreement for the Pirates Cove Travel Center, adoption of various ordinances for church development, convenience stores, signage for a hospital district, and self-service storage permits. The council also awarded a contract for electric distribution work and approved a lease agreement for an emergency medical services station. Furthermore, the council deliberated on the status of a forensic audit and authorized legal counsel regarding litigation during an executive session.

The City Council held a governance meeting to discuss the governance of the City Council. Facilitated by a consultant, the discussion covered the roles and expectations of Council members and staff, as well as the development of vision and mission statements for the City.

The council held a Strategic Planning Workshop to determine future direction and planning for the city. An amphitheater master plan for Shanely Park was presented during the public comments section. The workshop included a review of governance discussions from the previous day and a re-evaluation of established strategic focus areas, which include service delivery, infrastructure basics, community development, tourism development, citizen involvement, intergovernmental relationships, and economic development. City council and staff also established priorities for future projects, plans, and initiatives.
