The Georgia Trauma Annual Report 2024 provides a demographic and epidemiological analysis of trauma cases reported to the Georgia Trauma Registry. It comprehensively examines time to definitive care, patient demographics, injury characteristics, payment sources, injury intent, mortality, and outcome measures. The report aims to inform the medical community, policymakers, and the public about trauma care trends and issues, supporting efforts in epidemiology, injury prevention, research, education, acute care, resource allocation, and policy development for improving patient outcomes and public safety.

The meeting focused on three main areas. Discussions regarding Growing Physicians for Georgia's Future centered on leveraging Medicaid funding for Graduate Medical Education (GME), noting that forty-two states currently utilize this model, and exploring barriers such as ACGME procedural limits. The DPH Home Visiting Program segment highlighted the inclusion of Safe Sleep practices and challenges related to developmental follow-up for rural families, as well as potential impact on maternal outcomes. Recommendations from the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia included raising awareness of pregnancy Medicaid extension, protecting prenatal access, closing coverage gaps via Medicaid policy improvements, and investing in maternal mental health infrastructure. The next steps involve utilizing a dedicated Microsoft Team for sharing materials related to the Commission's recommendations report.

The meeting of the Commission on Maternal and Infant Health included discussions on drivers of infant mortality, focusing on the adoption of AAP Levels of Care, NICU capacity, transport systems, and investment in GaPQC and Regional Perinatal Centers. The commission also addressed Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) in Georgia, emphasizing high-risk Medicaid-enrolled families and unsafe sleep environments, and explored reinstating hospital safe sleep programs and expanding safe sleep education. Additionally, the Mom's Heart Matters program was reviewed, with recommendations to scale it statewide and improve access to blood pressure cuffs.

The meeting included discussions on improving stakeholder engagement, rural Georgia initiatives, and a telehealth update. Updates were provided on the lupus epidemiology project in rural Georgia, cancer and lupus research, and BRFSS funding. Challenges in engaging with rural hospitals were addressed, and potential solutions were proposed. Positive news regarding CDC funding was shared. Future planning included an upcoming workshop and website development. The state plan from 2017 needs to be updated.

The meeting included discussions and updates on several key public health issues. Topics included the respiratory disease epidemic affecting children, CMV and neonatal screening, influenza, harm reduction partners, and the impact of respiratory viruses on hospitals. Updates were provided on the status of influenza in the state, harm reduction partners, and efforts to strengthen opioid work. The importance of flu vaccination, particularly for young children and the elderly, was emphasized.
