Meharry Medical College Strategic Plan
The document, "The Meharry Shade," details Meharry Medical College's foundational commitment to addressing health inequities and serving underserved communities. It highlights historical innovations, such as the development of the "Meharry Shade" acrylic for dental prosthetics and the early integration of cultural competence into its curriculum. The institution's strategic focus includes increasing diversity in healthcare professions, particularly African-American males in PA programs, and fostering deep community engagement through participatory research. Meharry is also establishing new schools, including the School of Global Public Health and the School of Applied Computational Sciences, to empower leaders, catalyze solutions for complex global health challenges, and advance equitable healthcare, public health services, and data science research. The overarching vision is to cultivate a more racially pluralistic and equitable society by providing culturally competent care and sustaining robust community partnerships.
