This vision document outlines the strategic direction for Summerville Main Street, aiming to enhance downtown Summerville as the cultural, historic, social, and economic center of the community. Key strategic areas include downtown image improvement, historic preservation, streamlining business opening processes, tourism development, and business recruitment. The plan emphasizes partnerships, investments, and a four-point approach (outreach, promotion, design, economic restructuring) to achieve a vibrant economic and cultural district, an enhanced sense of place, and an enriched quality of life, ultimately making Summerville a tourism destination. A downtown Master Plan is targeted for completion by the end of 2018, building upon the 2017 work plan.

The council meeting included discussions and decisions on various city matters. The council approved the Streetscape bid, the rental of a generator for the Water Treatment Plant, and the transfer of funds for the Streetscape project. They also approved a proposal from S&ME, Inc for the inspection of the Streetscape project, the purchase of a new aerator float and propeller for the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the repair of a Baldor pump. Additionally, the council approved the purchase of a scarifier machine for sidewalk repair. An executive session was held to discuss personnel matters related to the City Manager search. Public comments were heard, and inquiries were made about franchise tax and the opening of a local business.

Departmental reports were presented by Main Street, Code Enforcement, Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Public Works, Recreation Department, Police, and Fire Department. The City Attorney provided an update on an easement, and the City Manager reviewed the FY 2017-2018 closing information and the water outage timeline. The council discussed rejecting a streetscape bid, purchasing a bulldozer, forming a citizen award committee, and acquiring a generator for the water treatment plant. They also considered the Montgomery Knitting Mill property and addressed public comments.
