The meeting included a special proclamation for Manufacturing Month and the acceptance of a regional planning council report. Key agenda actions involved the ratification of the Alachua Police Department collective bargaining agreement for fiscal year 2019/20, authorization for the City Manager to enter into a contract with Kompan, Inc. for the construction of an inclusive playground at a cost not to exceed $580,000, and the approval of the 2020 City Commission meeting calendar. The City Commission held a workshop to discuss the future of the former city warehouse property on Main Street. The discussion centered on various development options, including selling the property for private use or converting it into a public attraction related to the city's railroad history. Commissioners and public participants addressed concerns regarding structural safety, parking access, financial responsibility for building maintenance, and the potential for incorporating community spaces. The City Manager indicated that no immediate decision was required and that further research on conceptual options would be conducted before scheduling future workshops.
