The Board recognized an outstanding staff member for the monthly Doors Award, acknowledging her contributions to instructional technology and support during the transition to online learning. The Board further honored staff members during teacher recognition week and acknowledged the efforts of fellow Board members. Discussion also focused on the 'Return to Learn' plan required by the Department of Education, with emphasis on special education, equity, health and safety strategies, and infrastructure needs. Plans to enhance technology access for elementary students, manage potential hybrid learning models, and utilize federal funding to support these initiatives were reviewed.

The board discussed the approval of the BTA contract, including details on salary increases, health insurance changes, and a two-year agreement. Additionally, there was extensive discussion regarding alternative plans for graduation and senior celebrations, such as a parade, community-wide engagement, and socially distanced diploma distributions, due to current public health conditions. The board also considered various options for prom alternatives and overall end-of-year recognitions for students.

The board discussed a rise in COVID-19 cases, particularly at the high school, and reviewed data metrics and recommendations for shifting to a hybrid and virtual learning model. The board approved a motion to implement two hybrid days followed by a transition to virtual learning for the high school through December 22, 2020. Additionally, the board reviewed the impact of these changes on extracurricular activities, the virtual learning schedule, and the criteria for returning to in-person instruction.

The board meeting involved the recognition of new district staff. A representative from Edge Construction provided an update on the progress of gym projects, including the installation of acoustic wall panels, wall pads, and a center divider curtain, while addressing procurement delays and potential flooring repairs. Additionally, the board reviewed district student assessment data for ELA, math, and science, discussing trends in academic performance across various grade levels and strategies for system-wide improvements in math instruction, including the implementation of additional instructional time.
