State Board of Education Rulemaking Hearing
The rulemaking hearing focused on gathering public feedback regarding proposed revisions to several rule chapters: school and student health services, educator preparation clinical experiences, and standards for school-administered child care programs. The hearing included an explanation of protocols for the administration of rescue inhalers in public schools, updates to clinical practice site requirements for educator preparation, and a comprehensive update to child care program rules, including reclassifying them as State Board rules. Public comments were invited to inform potential revisions before final readings.

The board reviewed a recap of a recent workshop focused on leadership frameworks, strategic planning, and education legislative updates. Members provided reports on engagement activities, including visits to school districts and participation in regional superintendent study councils. The discussion included the role of AI and emerging technology in education, alongside a detailed proposal to establish a joint study committee to evaluate modifying high school foreign language graduation requirements. This proposal aims to explore broadening graduation criteria to include alternative coursework such as STEM, computer science, and career and technical education to better align with student career paths.
