The Lee County School Board held a regular session where they recognized students from Jonesville Middle School for their published artwork. The board approved the consent agenda, including minutes from previous meetings, claims and expenditures, Head Start Service Plans, Job Descriptions, Home Base Curriculum, Center Curriculum, and School Board Policy JC-BR regarding School Choice. There were discussions regarding student expectations, school accountability, resources, and the Profile of a Virginia Graduate. The Superintendent reported on the smooth start to the school year, enrollment numbers, accreditation and SOL results, and budget projections. The board also discussed changing to one accounts payable a month and the online auction of surplus items. They reviewed and approved several School Board Policies, including Staff Attendance, Staff Attendance Incentive, Disposal of Surplus items, partial funding of School Resource Officers, a contract for mobile units at elementary schools, a contract for a salary study, issuing a Request for Proposals for a facility study, salary scales for the Technology department, Staff Time Schedules, Reporting of Student Progress, and Graduation and Class Rank. The board also discussed 4x4 block scheduling and its potential advantages and disadvantages.

The 2018-2024 Comprehensive Plan for Lee County Public Schools (LCPS) aims to provide and maximize 21st-century educational opportunities for all students in a safe and supportive environment. The plan addresses key areas such as instruction (improving teaching practices, ensuring workforce readiness), administration (fiscal responsibility, competitive salaries), attendance and health services (improving attendance rates, expanding access to counseling), pupil transportation (efficient routing, vehicle replacement), operations and maintenance (school safety, facility upgrades), school nutrition (menu options, local food sourcing), facilities (facility improvements, equitable access), and technology (enrichment opportunities, digital citizenship). The plan also acknowledges declining enrollment and increasing numbers of economically disadvantaged and special needs students, emphasizing the need for additional resources to support successful student outcomes. The plan's goals are aligned with the Virginia Board of Education's priorities, focusing on high-quality learning environments, teacher recruitment and retention, and successful implementation of the Profile of a Virginia Graduate.
