The Washakie County School District #1 Health and Wellness District Plan, adopted February 24, 2016, focuses on promoting student well-being and academic achievement through healthy eating habits and physical activity. Key components include nutrition education, physical activity opportunities, health and physical education standards, school-based activities, and a district wellness advisory board. The plan aims to improve student health and academic performance by embedding nutrition and physical activity education into the curriculum, measuring student fitness levels, and modeling wellness principles among staff. Specific goals include achieving 85% student proficiency in personal fitness monitoring, application of fitness principles, and engagement in physical activity aligned with Wyoming standards. The plan also outlines nutrition guidelines for school meals and snacks, physical activity programs, and staff professional development.
The board discussed and approved several operational items, including staff hiring and resignations, coaching appointments for high school and middle school, and an out-of-state field trip. The board also designated district bank depositories and the official newspaper of record, and reviewed information regarding the 2023-24 Consolidated Grant, IDEA Part B Local Education Agency assurances, and Wyoming High School Activities Association insurance. Additional agenda items included approval of board policy revisions, a budget adjustment, a joint powers board dissolution addendum, and the disposal of surplus property. The board also set a future meeting date for July 26th and heard various reports from administrators, the business manager, and the superintendent.
The board discussed the lack of bids received for high school restroom renovations and determined they would work with local contractors and an architect to address the issue before returning with a future update. Additionally, the board reviewed various capital projects.
