Gardner-Webb Special Ceremony
The event served as a special ceremony to honor an individual, Mason Miller, by retiring his jersey number 17, ensuring it will never be worn again by another player. The speaker reflected on Miller's journey, including initial recruitment in 2020 after an inquiry about a pitcher throwing 95 mph, Miller's decision to join the 'Running Bulldogs,' his collegiate achievements such as leading the pitching staff to the highest finish in school history in the Big South and setting a record for conference wins in 2021, his subsequent professional career milestones (third-round draft pick, MLB debut in 2023, 2024 All-Star game), and the significant challenges he overcame, including a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes in 2018 and subsequent injuries. Gratitude was expressed to his wife, parents, coaches (especially Jim Chester and high school coach Joe Renali), teammates, and the Lord for guidance and support throughout his career.

Gardner-Webb University Welcome And Meet And Greet
The event was the official welcome and introduction of the new Vice President and Director of Athletics, Dr. Andrew T. Goodrich. The proceedings included expressions of gratitude to the outgoing athletics director, Chuck Burch, for his 25 years of service, guiding the athletics program into NCAA Division One and the Big South Conference, and adding seven sports. Recognition was also given to the executive search firm, Collegiate Sports Associates, and the members of the search committee. Dr. Goodrich detailed his extensive background and outlined his vision for Gardner-Webb Athletics, focusing on fostering a culture of competitive excellence, maximizing Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities while maintaining integrity, developing an incredible fan experience, and being intentionally creative and entrepreneurial to boost key metrics like graduation rates and alumni giving. He concluded by emphasizing two foundational principles: acting like champions before becoming champions (from Bill Walsh) and being good and faithful servants with the talents received (from the Parable of the Talents in Matthew).
