Pacific Oaks Panel
This session featured a Pride Panel discussion among community members and panelists from Pacific Oaks College. The discussion covered how panelists' perceptions of self and their relationships with religion/spirituality changed after coming out. Panelists shared personal experiences comparing coming out in different eras (e.g., 1985 vs. 2001 vs. 2021), detailing the challenges related to the AIDS epidemic, media representation, internalized struggles, and family reactions. A significant theme was the increased confidence, feeling of wholeness, and deeper interpersonal relationships gained post-coming out, despite ongoing societal improvements needed.
