The committee reviewed a draft ordinance from the Illinois County Municipal Civil Bureau regarding fine structures for property code violations. The discussion focused on enforcement protocols, including the issuance of violation notices, the use of stop-work orders, and the escalation process to the prosecutor or court system when property owners refuse to comply. Members also debated the effectiveness of fines versus publicizing violations to encourage adherence, and emphasized that enforcement actions are handled on a case-by-case basis to ensure public safety and welfare.
The board addressed several administrative and financial items, including an update on the search for an ERP system and ongoing health insurance evaluations. The commissioners held a discussion regarding the release of a legal opinion concerning the county's liability and financial role in drain district projects. Significant actions included approving a 40-hour work week adjustment for the assistant finance director, authorizing membership dues for the Michigan Association of Counties, and applying for 2% funding from the tribal grant allocation for the local cancer foundation.
