The UTeach Alabama Initiative is a statewide strategic effort addressing the urgent need for STEM teachers in Alabama. Launched in 2022 with a $14 million legislative commitment spanning five years, the initiative aims to establish permanent UTeach secondary STEM teacher preparation programs across seven Alabama universities. Key objectives include tripling the annual production of new STEM teachers to approximately 100, boosting overall statewide STEM teacher production by at least 20%, and providing nearly 10,000 K-12 students with hands-on STEM learning experiences. The overarching vision is to rebuild and strengthen Alabama's STEM teacher workforce.
