The board meeting covered several operational and administrative topics. Key discussions included department reports from the Fire, Police, Ordinance Enforcement, and Water Operations departments, including specific infrastructure repairs and incidents. New business involved designating local parking spaces for University of Michigan commuters, discussing methods to address illegal dumping in road rights-of-way, and initiating the process to establish the Wolf Lake Canal Weed Special Assessment District. The board also addressed unfinished business regarding the Lakeview Avenue Road Special Assessment District, efforts for a crypt roof replacement, and organizing a tire collection event. Finally, administrative updates were provided on radio ballot proposals, sewer plant permit regulations, transportation authority support, unemployment benefit hearings, and water tower grant assistance.
The board convened a public hearing to discuss a special assessment district for road improvements on Lakeview Avenue. Topics included the allocation of costs per parcel, specific details regarding materials for road stabilization and re-graveling, and pavement plans for the intersection at Rexford Road. Residents and the board reviewed project timelines, estimated lifespans of the improvements, and the process for identifying formal objections prior to a scheduled vote on a resolution.
The board addressed a request for a variance regarding setbacks for stairs with platforms leading to the lake at Ackerson Lake Drive. During the discussion, concerns were raised by the Township Supervisor and neighbors regarding the lack of required permits, the failure to comply with posted Stop Work Orders, and violations of property rules and regulations. The board ultimately voted to deny the variance request.
