The board conducted its organizational and monthly business meeting. The board also recognized several student and staff achievements, including athletic accomplishments for basketball and track teams, professional certifications, and community service awards. Proclamations were issued for National School Nurse Day and Teacher Appreciation Week. Furthermore, the monthly financial report was reviewed and accepted, and time was allocated for public comment.

The meeting provided guidance on vocabulary instruction and strategies for supporting child development at home. Key discussion topics included the distinction between receptive and expressive vocabulary, the importance of fostering a vocabulary-rich environment, and the application of explicit instruction techniques for teaching new concepts to children. Attendees discussed the role of audiobooks, social stories, and consistent collaboration between home and school environments to enhance student learning outcomes.

The 'On the Rise' Strategic Plan for Syracuse City School District is a five-year initiative focused on establishing a culture of learning and high expectations. Key areas include improving student reading and math skills, engaging families and communities to enhance belonging, optimizing district resources, and recruiting highly effective and diverse staff. The plan aims to prepare students for success in college and careers, and to inspire them to innovate locally and contribute globally.

The board convened a public review forum to discuss the Smart Schools Investment Plan. During the session, the floor was opened for public comment regarding the plan, but no members of the public requested to speak. Consequently, the forum was concluded shortly after opening.

The community budget forum focused on gathering community input to help inform the development of the district budget.
