The agenda for the meeting includes several key items to be discussed and potentially acted upon. Discussions involve the approval of monthly bills, the allocation of Cell Tower funds for 25 qualifying students to attend the DECA ICDC trip in Atlanta, and a Finance Update covering the Revenue & Expense Monthly report for February and the FY 2027 Budget. The Superintendent's Report will include personnel actions. Other topics include an update on the aftermath of the Blizzard of '26 (facilities and school days), approval of an Internet Bid, and discussions regarding the duration of the Superintendent's contract and Lifetouch Service Agreements. The committee will also address resolutions concerning school employee background checks and the establishment of working groups for state-level advocacy and community engagement. Additionally, there are discussions concerning public comment policies. The agenda reserves time for an Executive Session to discuss student records (homeschool approvals), collective bargaining matters (a grievance and an update on an Unfair Labor Practice case), and pending litigation/OMA complaints involving Barrett, Figgis, and Pezza. The schedule also accounts for a Public Hearing on the FY 2026-27 Proposed Budget.
The meeting included recognition for high school counselors who achieved the RAMP model program status from the American School Counselors Association, highlighting their commitment to a comprehensive, data-informed program focused on academic, career, and social-emotional success. Discussions also covered the Fiscal Year 2027 budget draft, noting potential cuts due to a 0% increase and significant projected increases in out-of-district tuition for students requiring specialized placement. Personnel actions involving non-renewals and leaves of absence were addressed and approved. The committee reviewed updates on state aid and tuition revenue. Furthermore, there was a spotlight on Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, specifically the firefighting program which participated in an ice rescue training with local departments, and the piloting of a co-taught construction management course integrating classroom instruction with job site application of mathematics. The committee also reviewed the semiannual bullying report and confirmed subcommittee appointments.
The meeting agenda includes student and staff recognition, specifically the Ponaganset High School Counseling Department being recognized as an American School Counseling Model Program. Key discussion and action items involve the approval of previous meeting minutes, monthly bill approval, a Finance Update including revenue/expense review and FY27 budget discussion, and the Superintendent's Report covering personnel actions. The committee will address a Semi-Annual Bullying Report, confirm Sub Committee Appointments, and consider resolutions regarding Full Funding of Categorical Transportation Aid and opposing Rhode Island Senate Bill S2172. Facility updates concern underground storage tank replacement and boiler/hot water tank replacements at PHS and PMS. Other items include discussion/approval of the APRA Coordinator Stipend and property matters for committee members. An Executive Session is planned to discuss job performance, privacy of student records (including homeschool approvals), legal advice concerning multiple OMA complaints and APRA requests, and collective bargaining updates related to an Unfair Labor Practice Case.
