Board meetings and strategic plans from Amanda Pickett's organization
This strategic plan outlines the direction for Enfield Public Schools, aiming to enable all students to meet high standards, make productive choices, contribute to a diverse global society, and act as responsible citizens, guided by a 'Portrait of a Learner.' The plan focuses on three key categories: Systems, to align processes for equitable experiences including human resources and a Multi-Tiered System of Supports; Teaching and Learning, to cultivate a professional learning culture and align instructional practices for improved academic outcomes; and Climate/Culture, to enhance the school environment through trauma-informed practices and improve staff morale and well-being.
The committee discussed a revision to the Enfield High School Program of Studies, specifically changing the AP/UCONN Biology course to AP Biology, resulting in a reduction from two credits to one. Additionally, an update was provided on elementary literacy initiatives, including the development of the K-12 Literacy Vision, the Science of Reading cohort work, and the implementation of a new elementary literacy walkthrough tool. The meeting also included an explanation of the instructional coach role and its focus on classroom instruction and professional learning. Furthermore, updates regarding scheduling changes and language program adjustments for JFK middle school were discussed, along with a review of the summer committee meeting schedule.
The Board convened an executive session to discuss the Superintendent's evaluation.
The committee addressed concerns for the upcoming policy read and discussed the potential rescheduling of the June policy meeting. Discussions were held regarding policy 1000B concerning deadly weapons and firearms to include exemptions for local and state law enforcement, and policy 5112 regarding student attendance. The committee reviewed several policies in the 1000 series, voting to move forward with replacements for security and safety plans, sexual offenders on school property, smoking regulations, school visitors, and school volunteers. The policy on the use of school facilities was tabled pending a draft from the Town of Enfield.
The meeting was primarily held in executive session to conduct interviews for the position of Post Secondary/Adult Learning Coordinator. Following the session, the Board voted to approve the appointment of a candidate to this position, effective July 1, 2026.
