Town of Morristown Special Town Meeting
The meeting was held to discuss a potential referendum for the November ballot concerning the town's investigation into purchasing private property on the waterfront for public purposes. Discussions covered the legal procedures for municipal property acquisition, including the role of permissive referendums, the necessity of appraisals, environmental investigations, and potential financing methods. Residents voiced concerns regarding due diligence, potential impacts on property taxes, and the necessity of such a purchase, while the board emphasized that the current proposition is solely to authorize an investigation rather than an immediate purchase, with further public hearings and voter approval required for any future transaction.
