Calcasieu Parish School Board

The meeting addressed several key issues including a resolution declaring a public emergency due to COVID-19, granting emergency powers to the Superintendent for managing the crisis. Also discussed and approved were the CPSB Head Start Program COLA and Quality Improvement Grant Applications for both Calcasieu and Beauregard, aimed at enhancing early childhood education. A resolution opposing state centralized sales tax collection was also approved. The board also approved worker compensation, general liability, and auto third-party administrator services. Additionally, the board discussed Entergy transformer relocation, College Oaks Elementary air conditioning improvements, Sam Houston High School football field improvements, and janitorial supplies for the 2020-2021 school year.

The Calcasieu Parish School Board held a special meeting that included interviews with candidates for the position of Superintendent. The board interviewed Dr. Marcus Jackson, Dr. Ina Delahoussaye, Dr. Charles Michel, and Mr. Karl Bruchhaus. Following the interviews, the board conducted several rounds of voting, which resulted in Mr. Karl Bruchhaus being elected as the Superintendent of the Calcasieu Parish School System. A subsequent meeting was scheduled to finalize and vote on Mr. Bruchhaus's contract.
