Summary
Consultant to apply for the development of tracking indicators and associated monitoring and evaluation framework for the South African Low Emissions Development Strategy. The purpose of the framework is for the South African Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment (DFFE) to efficiently track progress to a sustainable and net zero future. This work package is intended to undertake a comprehensive mapping and to define transformational indicators for the LEDs to be incorporated into the National Climate Change Information System (NCCIS). The indicators to be developed will inform South Africa’s domestic policy and decision-making process transition and international reporting under the Paris Agreement. The aim of the indicators and associated M&E framework would be to provide guidance and tools to support. The overall objective of this project is to develop a set of transformative indicators that are trackable continually over time to inform periodic monitoring and evaluation of South Africa’s LEDs 2050 envisioned by the Net Zero Development Roadmap and other LEDs products such as the development narratives, emission pathways, system dynamics modelling outcomes, LEDS investment plan and long-term SETs. The indicators to be identified and prioritized should align to South Africa’s climate change mitigation response objective, in particular the; i) Low Emissions Development Strategy (LEDS 2050) and related mitigation response policies and mitigation interventions prioritized in the LEDs thereof. ii) iii) iv) Sector Emissions Targets (SETs) and the achievement of the Just Transition imperatives.
