Summary
The Community Planning Assistance for Wildfire (CPAW) program, administered by Headwaters Economics, is accepting applications from incorporated U.S. communities for a free one-year technical assistance engagement to reduce wildfire risk through improved land use planning. The program is funded through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Forest Service, and selected communities receive customized recommendations on land use codes, comprehensive plans, ordinances, public engagement, and code enforcement. Applications are due by July 31, 2026, with selection decisions on September 30, 2026, MOUs signed in December 2026, and work beginning January 2027.
