The City of Northport's Safety Action Plan aims to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes on its roadways by 25% by 2034, following the Safe System Approach. The plan utilizes crash and census data analysis to identify trends and prioritize transportation safety improvements. Key components include leadership, planning structure, safety analysis, engagement and collaboration, equity, policy and process changes, strategy and project selections, and progress and transparency. It outlines specific projects across school zones, trail crossings, city intersections, and corridors, alongside typical recommendations and policy changes to foster a stronger culture of safety.

The council adopted resolutions for the emergency purchase of a replacement pump for the Forest Trails pump station and for professional services related to the Northern Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. The consent agenda included approval of various purchase order requisitions for equipment, software license renewals, calibration services, and sewer repairs. Additionally, the City Administrator provided updates on the upcoming capital budget, local downtown events, and holiday open house plans. The council also approved a motion to reschedule a future meeting due to a holiday observance.

The council meeting addressed several business items, including the approval of a software contract renewal for the Environmental System Research Institute, Inc. A candidate for Alabama House 61 provided an introduction. A public hearing was held for an ordinance establishing a policy for paving dirt roads, which was subsequently adopted. Additionally, the council approved resolutions for the Main Avenue Improvements Projects funding through ALDOT, an agreement with nCourt, a contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. for a hydraulic analysis of flood-prone areas, and an agreement with The Cassady Company, Inc. for engineering services related to a water and sewer expansion study.

The council discussed information regarding a Disaster Assistance Program for individuals and businesses impacted by recent flooding, including the establishment of a Disaster Assistance Center at City Hall. The Mayor addressed the increase in COVID-19 cases, urging citizens to take necessary precautions. Additionally, the council held an executive session to deliberate on potential retail development before officially adjourning the meeting.

The council approved several resolutions regarding appointments to the Northport Historic Preservation Commission and the Tuscaloosa County Special Tax Board. Additionally, the council authorized the City Administrator to negotiate and the Mayor to sign an agreement for Jail Services, and approved an agreement with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department for access to the city's communication tower. The consent agenda for the meeting was also formally approved.
