The board approved the minutes from the regular meeting on June 4, 2018, as well as the minutes from the called meetings on June 4, 11, and 21, 2018.
The meeting included discussions and actions on several key items, including amending the agenda to add Alcohol License Approvals for Log Cabin Restaurant and Jakin West Wine & Liquor. Appointments were made to the Airport Authority, Southwest Georgia Regional Commission, and Tax Assessor's Board. A resolution was approved for the Dissolution of the Department of Public Safety. Additionally, alcoholic beverage licenses were approved for Lee Torbett-The Store, Nancy Mills-Log Cabin Restaurant, and Hiren Patel-Jakin West Wine & Liquor, subject to certain conditions.
The Early County Board of Commissioners convened for a joint meeting to discuss T-SPLOST. Subsequently, during a regular board meeting, the board reappointed a member to the DeSota Trail Regional Library Board, approved an Intergovernmental Government Agreement and Referendum on continuing T-Splost, and approved alcoholic beverage licenses for two businesses. A motion was made to mirror a curfew as the City of Blakely but it failed due to lack of a second.
The board discussed employee benefits with Travelers Motor Club. They also discussed economic development, including advertising for an Economic Development Director, and approved a recommendation to proceed with this. Additionally, they approved having Brown's Custom Installation and Security install and maintain the fire alarm system in the main courthouse. The board also held a public hearing regarding a Notice of Property Tax Increase, during which no comments were made by the public. The board approved resolution to Amend FY 2021 Budget and to amend hazard pay on (8) employees as discussed.
The board discussed the FY 2020 county budget for the Sheriff Department. They approved mobile home tax release applications and insolvent mobile home release applications. The board accepted quotes for audit services and for FY 2019 Resurfacing Projects. They accepted the FY 18 audit and approved a request to relocate the Pataula Judicial Circuit Office from Randolph County to Early County, including covering a percentage of the relocation costs. A first hearing was held for the potential closure of CR 173-Bancroft Station Lane, and a public hearing was set for May 6. The board approved a resolution authorizing a lease agreement for a truck and track loader, and another resolution enabling the Tax Commissioner to undertake Judicial REM Tax Foreclosures. They also appointed a Family & Consumer Sciences Agent. Additionally, the board approved the recommendation to award a contract to Danielle Winzel.
