The Council meeting included a Solicitor's Report on resolving problematic properties. The Mayor recognized volunteers and commented on the borough's Christmas lights. Key decisions involved directing the Solicitor to adopt several streets (Green St, Hazel St, Hand St., Cherry Alley, and School St) as legal public streets for Liquid Fuels Map inclusion. The Council accepted a bid for 4,000 gallons of heating oil from Country Side Propane / Mountain View Fuel at $3.179 per gallon, while the bid for HVAC Services was tabled. Under Public Health and Safety, the Fire Company requested and received approval for $1400.00 for training and was reported to have been awarded a $21,000.00 grant for thermal imaging cameras; the Council decided against covering a hydrant cost balance, opting instead for a future meeting with SCMA. The council discussed and approved an application for a handicap parking spot. They also permitted the Tremont Library to host a farm animal program at the Veteran's Park. The solicitor is working on identifying the top problem properties in the Borough and the council decided to take action against the top three properties. The Quality-of-Life Ordinance needs to be amended to include violations related to yellow curb parking and Campers & Trailers. The council instructed the secretary to send monthly letters to property owners regarding grass cutting costs. The Memorial Day Parade will be held on May 27th at 11 am. Virtual speed enforcement for certain Borough streets was recommended. A town-wide Yard Sale is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7th.
The meeting included discussions about a property deed request, roads to add to the Liquid Fuel's Map, and a municipal driveway permit. Updates were provided on the purchase of a Yamaha Rhino for plowing, a fire siren quote, PPL issues, and Comcast's application for broadband funding. The council also discussed HVAC bids, updates on burned properties, the TACC building roof leak, and quotes for library doors and polishing the Borough Building floors. Reports were given by the Fire Chief and Tremont Ambulance, and the Treasurer's Report for December 2024 was reviewed.
The Tremont Borough Council meeting included discussions on a self-introductory speech by Marty Sowers, who announced his candidacy for District Judge of Magisterial Court 21-03-04 in the Republican primary this May. The council adopted Resolution 04-2025 for the Quitclaim Deed for Phillip Kintzel, and Resolution 02-2025, fixing the tax rate for the year 2025, and Resolution 03-2025, increasing the commission rate of the Borough's Elected Tax Collector effective February 2025. Updates were provided on problem properties, including 16 E. Main St., 312 E. Main Street, 314 E. Main Street and 22 E. Main Street. Justin Moeller reported they had 11 calls in February 2025 and were awarded $13,995.04 through a State Grant for debt reduction. The Bid Package for the Playground Project was presented to Council, with bids due at the April Meeting. The Streets Department will be doing the demo work at the playground.
