The Missouri S&T strategic plan, initiated around summer 2012 and actively implemented from fiscal year 2014, targets achieving a top return on investment by 2020, its 150th year. This plan aims to benefit key customers including students, employers, research partners, and donors, by leveraging unique advantages and providing extraordinary access to renowned expertise, one-of-a-kind services, and diverse learning possibilities. The plan is guided by four key themes: developing creative thinkers and leaders for lifelong success, enhancing institutional reputation and visibility, achieving sustainable growth to ensure best return on investment, and increasing meaningful access to and interaction with renowned faculty, staff, and services. It prioritizes significant investments in faculty hiring, improved instructional laboratories, and technology to enhance student learning and research capabilities.

The Bio-X Constellation's vision is to establish an academic platform at Missouri S&T for interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary life science research, integrating engineering, natural sciences, and humanities/social sciences. A core objective is translating basic research outcomes into innovation and entrepreneurship, particularly through the Kummer Institute. The plan leverages existing strengths in areas like biomaterials, bioprinting, and TBI research, while identifying emerging fields such as health informatics and biosystem automation. Key actions include addressing gaps in biological expertise and imaging, fostering interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs, and building strategic partnerships to drive academic excellence and biotech entrepreneurship.
