The board meeting focused on the consideration and approval of a proclamation to extend the Kankakee County Disaster Emergency for an additional 30 days.

The committee reviewed the maintenance facility's work order and financial reports. Bids for aggregate and culverts were opened and the lowest responsible bidders were accepted. Pay estimates from the County Engineer were approved. Multiple resolutions were passed, including an agreement for bridge replacement on County Highway 17, and engineering service agreements for safety shoulder widening on County Highways 8 and 53, as well as full width pavement reconstruction on County Highway 23. The committee also received an update on the Waterways Advisory Subcommittee, noting efforts to increase public safety awareness via social media, YouTube, and a dedicated email address.

The committee meeting addressed several key operational and project-related items. The committee reviewed and approved bids for road maintenance projects, specifically plant mix and paving contracts. Updates were provided regarding the Waterways Advisory Subcommittee’s safety initiatives and progress on a podcast project. The maintenance department reviewed facility work orders, financial status, and recovery efforts from recent storm damage. New business included the approval of an honorary roadway naming request and the authorization of additional funds for architectural services for the Kankakee County Courthouse project.

The committee reviewed the building report for November and December and discussed the Stormwater/MS4 program. Transportation updates included a review of the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan and an announcement regarding an IDOT public hearing for road work. Planning updates focused on the Hopkins Park Natural Gas Conversion Grant and the Strong Communities Program Round 2 Land Bank, resulting in the approval of additional properties eligible for grant funding. Finally, the GIS department reported on the successful update of online mapping software and aerial imagery.

The meeting included a bid opening for the Kankakee County Courthouse project and presentations from the Auditor's Office regarding monthly claims and the Treasurer's Office concerning reports and resolutions. The Finance Department presented the fiscal year 2025 annual comprehensive financial report, provided miscellaneous financial updates, a cash flow report, and a quarterly grant update.
