The Education Standards and Practices Board (ESPB) meeting addressed several cases involving educator licensure, including reviews of background offenses and requests for waivers and extensions. The ESPB meeting focused on a case involving Ms. Marcellais, who has been charged with multiple counts of child abuse in federal court. Discussion centered on whether the sealed nature of the grand jury information impacts Ms. Marcellais's obligation to disclose the arrest on her license renewal application. The board decided to initiate a Request for Inquiry to seek a response from Ms. Marcellais and/or her attorney before making a decision.

The board reviewed Mr. Adams's file and requested additional information. A motion was made and carried to grant Luke Adams a 40-day provisional license, pending receipt of additional information to be reviewed at the September meeting. Discussion included whether the license should be conditional or if a settlement agreement was needed.

The board reviewed Mr. Knutson's file following a Request for Inquiry regarding his discharge from Bishop Ryan Catholic School. The board decided to proceed with the standard Request for Inquiry process, allowing Mr. Knutson to respond. The board will consider a settlement agreement if charges are filed.
