The Faculty Senate reviewed and adopted an amended Academic Freedom Statement. Key business included the revision of Faculty Senate bylaws regarding membership eligibility and a decision to deliberate on a proposed Faculty Senate Code of Ethics and a Malicious Accusations Resolution in future sessions. Additionally, the Senate scheduled upcoming meeting dates for May and June.
The faculty senate discussed the implementation of a Bachelor of Applied Science degree program and its potential impact on students and the college. A proposal for a new Math Support Class as a co-requisite for Area A mathematics was accepted. Additionally, the senate reviewed and approved an Early Alert Policy designed to assist faculty in supporting student academic success, along with a proposal regarding the Commencement Committee.
The committee discussed and approved several academic proposals, including a Learning Support Policy for students, changes to the core curriculum's Area D, and numerous new Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degree programs in fields such as Teacher Education, Business Administration, Psychology, Political Science, History, Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Exercise and Health Sciences. Additionally, the committee approved various new course offerings and associated revisions to Area F requirements for multiple disciplines, as well as a new course for the Correll Scholars Program.
The meeting focused on the finalization of Survey Monkey questions regarding 8-week courses and the status of recommended time limits for end-of-semester faculty meetings. A committee was established to review Faculty Senate bylaws, with a deadline set for early April. Additionally, plans were discussed to consolidate Senate materials on the President's page for accreditation purposes, and the Senate addressed the need to elect new faculty members from the Humanities School and an At-Large representative for the upcoming session.
The committee discussed and approved a proposal to eliminate Compass Exit Testing from all Learning Support classes, with an amendment to change the effective date to Spring 2014. It was recommended that the responsible parties expedite the implementation to ensure readiness by the end of the spring term.
