The City Council meeting included discussions on redistricting, safer streets, improvements to Sala Avenue, and upcoming events at the Farmers & Fisheries Market. The council also discussed a potential Shrimp Cook Off and increased participation in the Recreation Department. Plans for office space at 1096 Fourth Street were reviewed, and tentative approval was granted for an Occupational License for a Fencing and Welding Business at 1126 Avenue H. A Home Occupational License for a Mobile Detailing Business was also approved, pending documentation from Tanglewood Apartments. The status of the WHARF Project was discussed, and a condemnation hearing was held for 534 Avenue G. Resolutions were adopted to proclaim an area as Gator Town, approve funding for an incinerator at the Westwego Police Department, and authorize a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement for the Sala Avenue Street and Infrastructure Improvements Project. An ordinance was adopted to amend garbage and trash collection fees, and another to address the treatment of animals kept outside. The council also authorized the disposal of certain property no longer needed for public use. A 60-day moratorium on new construction under 1200 square feet and on the use of metal for exterior wall covering was enacted. The council also agreed to use proceeds from an upcoming concert to add names to plaques at Honor Square.
