The council meeting addressed several key areas including finance, transportation, public services, and land planning. Discussions involved authorizing research for Internet Service Providers, and the first, second and third readings of Bylaw 2012-01 and Bylaw 2012-02. The council also discussed the 2012 Paving Program, bridge construction/replacement along ALPAC Road, and gave a notice for people to hook up to the main water/sewer lines. Additionally, the council authorized reclaiming ownership of land, appointed members to the Wabasca/Desmarais Housing Authority, authorized Peerless Trout First Nation to apply for Governance Grants, authorized all Council members to attend the FCM Conference, authorized purchasing mobile homes for staff housing, and approved training nurses for the Clinics, Hospital and Seniors Lodge.

The meeting addressed various topics including finance reports, transportation services, public services, and land development. Key actions involved approving the sale of land to Zabot Holdings Ltd and Noralta Lodge Ltd, accepting the Wabasca Airport Engineering report, and rescinding a previous motion regarding land use. Adjustments to rental rates and fees for petroleum and natural gas leases were approved, along with additions to the Land Development and Sale Policy. The council also discussed and approved actions related to the Peerless Trout First Nation operating grant, closure of childcare programs in Calling Lake, and several FCSS grant allocations. Additionally, the purchase of AEDs for various locations, research into designs for a Calling Lake Pool and a new arena in Wabasca, and a donation to Wabasca hockey teams were approved. Correspondence from the Government of Alberta and Alberta Transportation was reviewed, and authorizations were granted for council members to attend various conferences and shows. A branding strategy for 100% Wilde was approved, and lots were designated to the MD Housing Initiative.

The special council meeting included the establishment of an MD No. 17 Doctor Recruitment Committee with appointed members. A motion from January 11th, 2012 regarding the ownership and transfer of Senior Citizen Units in various locations was rescinded. The council then approved the transfer of ownership of Senior Citizen Units, including the land, to the Wabasca/Desmarais Housing Authority (WDHA), with the MD covering outstanding work costs. The council also discussed the Housing Initiative and staff housing issues. Summary financial statements are to be provided to Council monthly, and complete operating & capital financial statements quarterly.

The Municipal District of Opportunity Wildfire Mitigation Strategy identifies wildfire threats to six communities: Wabasca, Sandy Lake, Chipewyan Lake, Red Earth Creek, Peerless Lake, and Trout Lake. It provides strategies for wildland/urban interface risk mitigation, emphasizing FireSmart development practices. The plan focuses on vegetation management, development practices, public education, legislation, interagency cooperation, cross-training, and emergency planning. Key outcomes include reducing wildfire intensity and spread, improving structure survival, and fostering community resilience through preparedness and cooperation.

The Area Structure Plan (ASP) for the Hamlet of Wabasca provides a framework for future land uses, subdivision, and development over the next 10 years. It focuses on orderly, efficient, and sustainable development, addressing the diverse needs of permanent and seasonal residents while expanding local employment opportunities. The plan emphasizes downtown revitalization, enhanced tourism infrastructure, environmental protection, and efficient municipal services. It also aims to ensure a high quality of life through community, protective, and emergency services.
