Board meetings and strategic plans from Kathy Serr's organization
This document presents a comprehensive, five-phase set of active transportation recommendations for the City of Burke, South Dakota, designed to span approximately twenty years. The recommendations focus on enhancing pedestrian and cyclist safety and accessibility through improvements in circulation infrastructure, including sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, and multi-use trails. It also prioritizes the integration of amenities and vegetation, the enforcement of relevant ordinances, strategic signage, the development of outdoor public spaces, and considerations for zoning and housing. The overarching goal is to foster a healthier, more engaged, and livelier community by promoting active transportation and building upon the city's 'Small Town Atmosphere'.
The Planning & Zoning meeting involved discussions and actions on several zoning-related matters. These included a zoning discussion regarding making lots less than 2.5 acres for a development, approval of a plat for Lot 1, Zeisler First Subdivision, and a public hearing and subsequent approval of a variance application for Dan & Brenda Steiner to add a dwelling to their campground. Additionally, a public hearing was held and a variance application approved for Brian & Rhonda Freudenburg to build a dwelling on less than 40 acres. Scalp Mountain's planned unit development was presented as an informational item with no action taken.
The Gregory County Commission held a meeting to discuss various topics including road conditions based on public input, 2026 budget requests from community and dining services, and a travel request. The commission reviewed the Planning & Development District III Annual Report and addressed personnel matters in an executive session. They approved a plat, abatement of taxes, and discussed a refund of taxes, tabling the decision for further inquiry. The Highway Department reported on their activities, and the commission authorized an amendment to the Buryanek Access Road Agreement. They also approved telecommunications occupancy applications and accepted a bid for Milling/Reclaiming equipment. Progress on the HVAC/Wall Repair Project was discussed, leading to a decision to close the Courthouse for a 5-day period to accommodate electrical work.
The Gregory County Commission held a meeting covering various topics including travel requests, approval of claims, plat approvals, and Board of Adjustment matters. Variances for building dwellings were considered, with one approved and another denied due to zoning ordinances. The 4-H office provided a report on their activities. The commission discussed budget legalities and personnel in executive session, approved an agreement with SD Game, Fish and Parks for road maintenance, and hired a new Highway Department employee. A petition to vacate a portion of a township road was accepted, and abatements of taxes on certain properties were approved.
