The new business segment focused on a Certificate of Appropriateness application (CA-24-002) for facade renovations to the Coombs Building, located at 921 N. Main Street. The application proposed significant changes, including the addition of balconies, replacement of the roof, and alterations to the canopy. Staff analysis indicated that the proposed changes would not meet several Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation and could result in the property losing its contributing status to the Cottonwood Commercial Historic District. The discussion also included updates on the 2024-2026 Strategic Plan, including the updated Cottonwood Commercial Historic District map and the progress of fundraising and volunteer recruitment for the Cottonwood Historic Property Tour.

The commission reviewed and discussed the 2024-2026 Historic Preservation Strategic Plan, including the history section, which was noted as needing further polishing and editing to better reflect the founding and settlement of Cottonwood. A report on the 2023 Historic Preservation Conference was presented, along with updates on the CLG requirements and the 2024 Cottonwood Historic Property Tour. The meeting also included updates on the CHPT Committee and a discussion of the Historic Preservation Strategic Plan.
