The Walker County Safety Action Plan outlines a data-driven strategy to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes on its roadways, aiming for a 10% annual reduction by 2040. Guided by the Safe System Approach, which strives for zero fatalities, the plan utilizes crash and census data to identify trends and prioritize transportation safety improvements. Key components include leadership and goal setting, safety analysis, equitable public engagement, policy changes, strategy and project selection, and performance evaluation to achieve its objectives.

The meeting included discussions and approvals for several key items. These included the resurfacing of Old Pineywoods Road in District Four, certification of the environmental study for The Ridgelands Development, approval of the Walker County FY2026 Budget, and approval of the Walker County Airplane Hangar Rental Agreement. Additionally, the S&W Software Contracts for FY2026 were approved, and a decision was made to cancel the Inmate Medical Catastrophic Insurance coverage.

The Walker County Commission meeting included recognition of National 4H week with a presentation by Ms. Rebecca Parsons and State Associates, along with a photo session for a 4H Banner at the Cordova Harvest Fest. A check of $250,000 was presented to Alethia House from Opioid Funds. A proclamation was read, designating October 2024 as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The 2025 budget has been approved.

The emergency meeting included a motion to approve the agenda and retire to Executive Session, followed by a motion to reconvene the meeting. A key decision was made to rescind the transfer of Mr. Frederick Haynes from the Sheriff/Jail department to the Solid Waste department as Driver/Operator; he will return to his original position immediately. The meeting then adjourned.

These included approving a new bank account and resolution for the Copeland Ferry/Pumpkin Center Water Project Grant, appointing a member to the Regional Planning Commission Board, and approving budget amendments for appraisal and revenue related to a tax auction. The commission also discussed and approved the Juneteenth holiday for County Employees and proposals from the WCHAC. They addressed quotes for the Jail Offices HVAC system and decided to check on prices before calling a special meeting for approval. Additionally, commissioners discussed road work, gas prices affecting costs, and the importance of safety in work zones.
