The Village Board of Trustees adopted a revised code of ordinances for the Village of Smithton, St. Clair County, Illinois.

The meeting addressed various topics including a blessing box request, the removal of a water tower, and the police chief's report. Discussions also covered the Comprehensive Plan, Safe Routes to School, an OSLAD grant, economic development, and Safety Committee matters. Zoning Board items included a Richland Creek matter related to a solar farm. A proposal for professional services for annexation was accepted. The Supervisor reported on department activities, and the Attorney discussed solar farm coding. The board approved officer's reports and discussed committee reports, including finance and insurance matters such as bonuses and membership dues. Other topics included street and utility issues, police committee matters, parks and cemetery, and lighting procedures. An ordinance prohibiting the sale, distribution, or delivery of products containing kratom was adopted. Payroll was authorized, communications were shared, and new business involved allowing the Mayor to sign a resolution. Parking issues and asset management software were slated for future discussion, and an executive session was held.

The meeting addressed the Comprehensive Plan, the potential ban on Kratom sales within the Village, and the Ballfield Lights Procedure, where they are awaiting information from Bel-Clair Electric to determine costs. Painting the Ballfield Fence will be put on hold due to cost, but fencing work will be completed early Spring. The board discussed the potential use of the Bria Building and Property for law enforcement training and recommended a Christmas bonus for employees, prorated for those with less than a year of service.

Reports were given by the Supervisor regarding assistance with the Haunted Trail, meter replacements, catch basins, salt building blocks, reseeded shooting range, and fire hydrant flushing. Options for painting the ball field fences were presented. The sale of surplus vehicles was discussed. Discussions also took place regarding a tornado alarm system, park trail phase 2, ballfield safety netting, fence painting, and lights procedure. An executive session was held, but no action was taken as a result.

Reports were given on road maintenance, ballfield fence repairs, and a water leak in Fieldview. The board also discussed the repair of a manhole, tornado alarm system, park trail, ballfield safety netting and lights, and the Smithton Athletic Association. An ordinance related to Ottens Minor Subdivision was adopted, and a one-time showing agreement with Barber Murphy was approved. The board also discussed MEPRD reimbursement and potential topics for upcoming committee meetings. An executive session was held, but no action was taken as a result.
