The Commission reviewed and approved a recommendation for a temporary speed hump pilot program presented by a traffic engineering consultant, which is intended to serve as a tool for traffic calming.
The commission selected a Vice Chair. Discussion was held regarding a request to submit a work order to the Public Works/Engineering Department for the installation of parking T's in the downtown village, with staff directed to provide further analysis. Additionally, the commission discussed the addition of smart parking meters on Acacia Avenue, provided feedback on public noticing for the project, and reviewed the ongoing initiative to replace remaining coin-only meters.
The commission conducted introductions for a new recreation supervisor and held a discussion regarding activities and programming for Teen Night. Commissioners also shared personal reflections on their winter break.
The commission discussed the extension of the Alternative Transportation Safety Education ad hoc subcommittee and ongoing progress on a four-part video series. Members reviewed potential messages and locations for variable message boards as part of the Mobility Signage ad hoc subcommittee work. There was an evaluation of the Climate Action Plan Implementation Work Plan to identify new subcommittee opportunities, resulting in the creation of the Transit Education Materials ad hoc subcommittee. The commission also scheduled a future tour of the EDCO Anaerobic Digester and received updates regarding staff-led environmental projects, grant applications, and inter-commission collaboration efforts.
The commission discussed the extension of several ad hoc subcommittees, including those focused on Alternative Transportation Safety Education, Transit Education Materials, and the Green Events Checklist. Updates were provided regarding the Mobility Signage project, including messaging for upcoming community events and sign placement. The Chair provided a report on collaboration with the Youth Commission regarding the Climate Action Plan. Staff presented updates on various city programs, including bicycle education, free tree giveaways, and the EV Charging Station Master Plan. Members also discussed new program launches from the San Diego Regional Energy Network and a community survey regarding multimodal transportation.
