This document outlines St. Johns Public Schools' comprehensive goals for the upcoming year, reinforcing its commitment to students, staff, and the community. These goals support the district's strategic plan, which centers on social-emotional well-being, PK-12 academic improvement, and strong stakeholder engagement. Key initiatives include refining early childhood assessment data, enhancing K-5 literacy and math instruction, increasing individualized support in middle school, and maintaining high graduation rates and college/career readiness at the high school level. Furthermore, the plan addresses improvements in governance, community and staff relations, and business and finance operations.

This guidance document from the Michigan Department of Education aims to support elementary students on their journey to high school graduation. It aligns with Michigan's Top 10 Strategic Education Plan, specifically Goal 5: "Increase the percentage of all students who graduate from high school." The guide provides evidence-based strategies and systemic approaches organized into three key focus areas: Creating a Welcoming Environment, Building Healthy Students and Relationships, and Implementing Timely Interventions. The overarching goal is to cultivate students' skills, confidence, and motivation, fostering their engagement and success throughout their K-12 experience and ultimately, leading to graduation.

The meeting addressed the Eureka Elementary enrollment, specifically for Young Fives, Kindergarten, and 1st Grade. A combined Young Fives and Kindergarten classroom will be established at Eureka Elementary, and the first-grade section will remain. Parents expressed concerns and appreciation for the staff and small class sizes at Eureka Elementary. The board was urged to prioritize the current structure at Eureka Elementary in future decisions.

The meeting addressed community concerns regarding student placement and boundary lines. There was a recommendation for the next steering committee to include individuals who voted against the bond measure to ensure a balanced perspective. Concerns were raised about enrollment numbers at Eureka Elementary and the potential impacts on class sizes and resource allocation. The board approved new hires and resignations. The board also moved into an executive session to discuss SJEA negotiations. A facilitator from the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) presented and discussed the results of the recent Board of Education self-assessment.

The board of education received information from Andy Ingall of MLI regarding governance team roles and responsibilities, as well as communication procedures and protocols. Superintendent Berthiaume presented the 2023-2024 District Superintendent and Administrative Goals.
